HISTORY

Over the years there were many Junior football teams formed under the Mernda Senior Football Club Banner, but it wasn't until 2013 that the current Mernda Junior Football Club was officially incorporated as a Club in it's own right. The Club kicked off with five teams. Our home ground was the Mernda Recreation Reserve, better known as Schotters Road. There were seven people on the Committee, all associated with both the Senior and Junior Clubs. The committee at the time found it tough juggling between the Senior games on a Saturday, then fronting up again on the Sunday for the Junior games. Over the next few years more people started putting up their hands to help with the running of the Junior Club.

In 2016 the Club was relocated to the new grounds and facilities at Waterview Reserve, Mernda. In 2018 the Club made the decision to introduce girls footy teams and we are proud of the continued growth in the girls football program. 2019 saw the introduction of our Junior Netball Club with four teams being fielded in our inaugural season. During 2021 a lighting upgrade was installed on the Oval 1 light towers at Waterview Recreation Reserve, due to the Club successfully applying for a lighting upgrade through the Council. This will enable us to host future night games.

In season 2021 we fielded 18 football teams, which included the following: boys U9’s through to U17’s and girls U12s, 14’s and 16’s. The Club was awarded four Premierships for the season. These were for the boys Under 11’s, Under 12’s (2 teams) and Under 14’s. Our Current Auskick sees us with over 150 boys and girls participating on a Friday night and our Netball Club continues to grow with 9 teams playing for the summer of 2021 season.
